Frequently Asked Questions About Botox®

While many people have heard of Botox, not everyone is familiar with every facet of Botox treatments. If you are looking into treatments for your fine lines and wrinkles, you may still have a lot of questions about how Botox works, what to expect from treatments, and how long you can expect it to last. At Beauty Co., we help our patients find the right treatments so they can feel great in their skin. Botox is a non-invasive treatment that helps many people to achieve smoother and more balanced skin.

What Is Botox?

Botox is an injectable that has been used for many years to relax facial wrinkles and smooth out fine lines in certain key locations on the face. It is a well-established product that is trusted by medical professionals and patients alike.

Botox is a form of Botulinum Toxin. This toxin is a neuromodulator that can be used to block certain nerve signals. When signals to the muscles are blocked by the neuromodulator, the muscle in that area will no longer receive the instructions needed to contract. This limits or softens the movement of that muscle.

Will Botox Freeze Your Face?

At Beauty Co., we use a light touch with our Botox treatments that allow us to gently relax overactive muscles in the face. Rather than achieving a “frozen” look, we can soften the motion that is responsible for your deep lines and wrinkles without limiting your natural facial expressions. One of the goals of our approach is to balance your facial muscles. We gently treat muscles that cause downward motion while allowing the muscles that cause upward and lifting motion to grow stronger.

How Long Does Botox Take To Work?

Many of our patients begin to notice a difference in their facial lines after 24-48 hours. However, you may not see the full effects of your Botox treatment until around 30 days. This time is also variable between patients.

What Can Be Treated Using Botox?

Botox is a versatile product that can be used in many different situations and areas of the face. Because it works to relax facial muscles, the best applications for Botox are for dynamic wrinkles. Dynamic wrinkles are any lines that are caused because of muscle contractions. We may recommend a different treatment if your fine lines and wrinkles are caused by sun damage or other factors besides repetitive motion.

While Botox can have many applications, it is FDA-approved for use on forehead lines, crow’s feet, and frown lines. These are the most commonly treated areas. Off-label uses should always be discussed with a medical professional.

What Does A Typical Botox Procedure Look Like?

Botox is a fast and non-invasive procedure. Before your treatment, you will discuss the process with your injector. We will determine the treatment area and how many units of Botox that will be used during the process.

After your consultation, you will often be able to go straight to your treatment. We will cleanse your face to get it ready for injections. Some patients ask for topical numbing cream, but many people are fine without it. Because the needle is so small, you will only feel a slight pinch. The solution will be injected into key points around the treatment area. Most people are in and out in under an hour, but treatment time can vary.

What Is Recovery Like For Botox Injections?

Botox is considered a “no downtime” treatment. While you may have some tenderness, redness, and swelling, you can resume normal activities and will have little to no social downtime. You will want to avoid rubbing your face in the treatment area to make sure the product stays in the right location, and  you should treat your skin gently for the next few days.

How Long Does Botox Last?

The results of Botox treatments will last a varying amount of time depending on your body’s unique chemistry and how much product we use. However, most treatments last between 3 and 4 months. Because Botox is temporary, you will need to schedule additional appointments to continue benefiting from the treatment.

What Results Can You Expect From Botox?

Shortly after your Botox treatment, you can expect finer lines to disappear first. As time goes on, you can start to see deeper lines and creases smoothing out. The results will be subtle and will not change the structure of your face. You will still look the same, but with fewer wrinkles. You’ll simply look like a younger and more refreshed you.

When Should You Start Having Botox?

If you are concerned about wrinkles on your face, there is no right or wrong time to start having Botox treatments. The timing of your first treatment is something that you should discuss with your injector during a consultation. Treatments are given based on when wrinkles have started appearing rather than age.

Is Botox Right For You?

Botox may be right for you if you have dynamic lines on your face that are caused by repetitive muscle movement. Botox treatments are best for individuals who are in good health and who are not pregnant or nursing. If you have any questions about whether Botox is a good choice for your situation, you should talk to your doctor.
